I know I have read people talking about how you can collect their gear after they die in the caverns but I always tend to seal away all entrances to the caverns in order to keep the beasties out and to prevent my own idiot dwarves from running out and getting themselves killed over cobwebs.

Today while experimenting I learned there is a way to make your useless monster hunters petition for citizenship. You just have to kill them and resurrect them as an intelligent undead.
